'Most people to participate in a football match'

Guinness logo.png

2,357. This is the current record number for people to play in a football (soccer) match. It was set in Chile, South America in May 2016. Our goal is simple, to bring the record home.

In May 2021 we will begin our Guinness World Record attempt to break and set a new record for the 'most people to participate in a football match'...ever.

Hosted at the home of The New Saints F.C. two teams will participate in the record breaking attempt.

The rules are simple. Once the match kicks off each player from both teams must interact with play (basically touch the football) in an allotted 20 minute period. There is no time limit on the length of the match, this will be determined by the amount players participating however this does mean the match must be continuous i.e. we'll be playing through the night!

Not an elite professional athlete? Not a problem! This match is open to those of all ages, sexes and walks of life. In fact the more obscure you think you are the more welcome you will be to participate because this event is all about breaking down social 'taboo' barriers.

Anyone can play and we want to encourage every one of you, whether you think you can play or not, to sign up and get involved - you will not be judged for your talent, or lack of, but for the fact that you're helping us out. Besides, it's not every day you get the opportunity to help break a World Record is it?!
